Adding custom drapery to this sunroom completely transformed he space. We used an outdoor fabric so that we could keep the weight down and chose to simply sheer these custom drapery panels on a rod. By adding custom drapery in the corners of the room and along the back wall, we took this glass room from blah to beautiful.cheryl custom drapery

The addition of the subtly striped fabric made the room more appealing by adding elements of soft textures to this glass house. The newly reupholstered cushions and matching dog bed complete the transformation.

We wanted to dress this west facing window, that looks directly at the neighbors house, fashionably and functionally. We choose the Solid Vinyl Plantation Shutter because it helps to block out radiant heat while allowing light into the room, while simultaneously easily controlling privacy.

Wood Shutters and Custom Drapery

I am often asked if one can mix wood shutters and custom drapery. My answer – YES. Although not applicable in all situations, there are times when you might want to add some softness to wood or vinyl shutters in your home. This beautifully decorated home is the perfect example of using fabric drapery coupled with shutters to finish the room.

By using wood shutters with a tilt bar, the traditional Plantation Shutter look is achieved.  The shutters are outside mounted to allow for the largest possible louver. The wood shutters are on all the windows, but not on the French Doors. The Drapery helps to balance the expansive windows by connecting the high windows with those below.  The drapery brings the room together by adding a different texture to the room that carries the black and white motif up the wall.

We used a two bold patterns. The front room fabric by Fabricut is appropriately called the Dance, and the owner wanted a broad stripe that we choose to run horizontally to help widen the single width panels in the dinette. This is one of my favorite rooms to date.

The Master Bathroom opens into the Master Bath so we used the same fabric for the drapery over the slider. The custom iron hardware and rings complete the look of the drapery. We choose to use a light filtering sateen lining on to allow light into the room.

Hollow Vinyl Shutters for the Master Bedroom

People often ask what to do with sliders. There are many options from custom drapery to vertiglide Duettes or Luminettes. For this west facing bedroom, we chose to use Skandia’s EX100 hollow vinyl shutters. This shutter has the look of a traditional shutter with the benefits and durability of extruded vinyl. One of the great advantages of this Plantation Shutter is that the color permeates the vinyl. The divider rails allow for privacy while still allowing light to flood into the room.  Shutters are also a wonderful way to help manage the heat. By tilting the louvers up, you can block out most of the radiant heat, while still allowing light to glow through.

We choose a warm almond color to suit the pine furniture and the burgundy wall. The tilt bars add a more traditional look that suits the feel of the home.

Shutters for the Baby’s Room

While deciding which window treatment to put in this nursery, we considered a variety of possibilities. We wanted to darken the room for nap times, but wanted something that would allow light to flood into the room at other times of the day. We ultimately choose Skandia’s SL300 solid vinyl shutters.

These shutters were within the homeowner’s budget and met all the criteria that we looking for. We left the sheer drapery and the banner hanging in the room to soften the look.

We also choose to add a divider rail two thirds up the panel so that there is privacy when needed without blocking out all of the light.

Windows at the Ranch , Part 2

The owner has her own space in the beautiful ranch home that we simply updated with some custom drapery.  A simple custom drapery over the pine framed window adds some texture with this washed out pattern in light blues and golds. The soft pattern enhances the feel of the room with fighting with the beautiful fabric on her custom glider.

Windows at the Ranch

We added some soft treatments to this loving Ranch Home to help soften the kitchen and the owners sewing room. For the kitchen, we choose a solid fabric for this mock roman valance.

We choose this lovely buttercream colored Kasmir Fabric and added a 1/4″ welt along the top to add some extra detail. The color plays on the gold tone in the beautiful pine frames of the windows as well as the pattern in the wall paper. Notice how the swoops in the valance help to soften the lines of the grids in the windows and the lines of the tile.

Rendezvous with Your View

TSolar Roman Shades, Skandia, Deanna, Softline, Custom Iron Hardware, Santa Mariahis sunroom was a pleasure to work on. We used Solar Roman shades on the upper windows to help diffuse light. The Solar Roman is a great affordable shade that is perfect for those windows that get pounded by the sun at certain times during the day.

On the lower windows, we used a light filtering cellular shade from Skandia’s Deanna line. We opted for a cordless operating system.

And we finished the room with custom rod iron hardware and custom drapery from our local workroom. The drapery softens the wall of windows and does not obstruct the beautiful view of the pool.
